Welcome to Long View High School

Long View High School is a small alternative Jefferson County Public School, the smallest comprehensive public school in the metro area. We are in our sixteenth year of operation, with four teachers serving students in grades 10-12. We have over 200 graduates, many of whom have continued their education at four year colleges and universities.

The primary alternative that we offer is our friendly atmosphere, which allows us to get to know our students, their needs and their learning styles. Our size also helps us promote a strong sense of belonging and community.

We teach the entire curriculum, although obviously course selection is limited because of our size. We go on weekly field trips that enhance the classroom learning. We have many community experts who come into our classes to speak.

About Long View
Long View High School began in 1994 as a unique educational option within Jefferson County Public Schools. Long View is designed to serve those high school students whose needs are not being met by traditional, comprehensive high schools. We are dedicated to Jeffco Schools vision of building bright futures. Long View High School is so named because it is our philosophy and approach: students and teachers take the long view toward education. Real accomplishment takes time and effort.

We, of course, do also have the beautiful long view of the Denver metro area from our building and that enhances our school name. Medieval castles were built on hills so that the long view of the surrounding countryside could offer warning of approaching danger. The long view was what provided safety for the community; and safety is a significant component of the Long View experience.

Our Mascot
The Phoenix is our mascot. The Phoenix is a peace-loving, mythological bird that was reputed to be the most beautiful in all the sky. When its life force was ebbing low it was able to regenerate by arising from its own ashes. The Phoenix seems an apt metaphor for the students at Long View who come here seeking a new and better academic life.
